SalviaThe vibrant red flower spikes of scarlet sage, so loved by municipal gardeners, make a blaze of summer colour few other flowers can match. This perennial salvia is almost always grown as a summer flowering annual, and comes in a range of other colours. They are heat tolerant but require frost protection.

Timing:

Plant in spring to summer for flowers in late spring and summer. Will flower 6-8 weeks after planting. May continue flowering into autumn and winter, and even into a second year in warm climates.

Positioning:

Full sun to part shade.

20-30cm

Colour:

Fire engine red, scarlet, violet, purples, blues, pinks and white.

Massed displays, bedding, borders, containers, cut flowers.
