A old fashioned flower experiencing a new wave of popularity with new breeding. Grown in well-drained soil that is not too rich in nitrogen, they can be grown to flower all year round. Pinch plants when they are 15cm tall to promote side shoots and cut back stalks after flowering to encourage a second crop of flowers.
Timing:
Plant all year round for flowers in 8-10 weeks.
Positioning:
Full sun.
Height:
20cm for dwarf varieties to 80cm for the tallest.
Planting Distance:
15-30cm
Colour:
Wide range of reds, pinks, mauves, bronze, yellows, pastels and white. Available in mixes or as separates.
Use:
Mass display, borders, bedding, cut flowers, containers, cut flowers. Taller varieties look wonderful in mass displays in backgrounds or middle borders; dwarf varieties can be used for foreground or edging or in pots.
