Similar to pansies, violas are usually smaller and clear faced. They come in an infinite variety of colours and markings and will flower for long periods. Especially if spent flowers are picked and plants are trimmed to maintain shape.
Timing:
Plant all year round to flower 6-8 weeks later. In mild climates best to plant in autumn to flower in winter or spring. In cold climate plant in spring to flower in summer.
Positioning:
Sun to semi-shade. They do best with morning or late afternoon sun.
Height:
15-20cm.
Planting Distance:
20cm.
Colour:
Huge range of colours and bicolours.
Use:
Borders, bedding, drifts in the garden, rockeries, tubs, hanging baskets.
