Transplanting a rose

Last winter I planted some roses on my southern fence. It was to replace a passionfruit vine which I thought had died. But not so,so now I want to transplant this climbing rose but the only spot at present is where I once had sweet peas, and my experience with a rose and a limeish soil for sweetpeas was not good for the rose. Hence I want to change the soil type for this spot. Any advise. I live in Benalla Vic

just add some good compost to the soil and use well rotted manure as well lime shoulnt be to much of a problem for roses as i use to grow them and sweetpeas together on lime stone soils in South aust many years ago.
